Studying the Corrosion Effect of Fixed Orthodontic Appliances on Thyroid Hormones

This study aimed to determine the nickel (Ni), and chromium (Cr) ions amounts investigate their potential effects on thyroid hormones in patients' saliva who were receiving treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances (FOA). In this study, 42 FOA volunteers participated, all samples obtained from a specialized center for manufacturing orthodontics Bab Al-Moadham, Baghdad, Iraq. According findings, individuals have significantly higher levels of (P<0.05) FT3 FT4 than those did not treatment, whereas there no significant changes TSH (P=0.599). Additionally, Ni+2 Cr+3 considerably metallic (P <0.0001). The findings investigation support hypothesis that corrosion metals meaningful impact concentration Ni Cr and, consequently, salivary functioning patient group.
